03:33 am - Justice for whom?
Saddam Hussein, the policemen who shot Shawn Bell, Isaiah Washington, Michael Richards.
A list of people who have done things that people don't like.
If all of them were 'vanished' to oblivion, would the world be any better? Would the problems that they caused be solved, even a little? Would these 'evil doers', if placed away from the environs where they did 'evil', be better people and learn something? Does anybody really think taking someone away from 'society' and putting them in a pen where they are surrounded by violent people will make them better, less violent people?
What usually happens is some group representing the 'victim' of a crime wants to exact something from the 'evil doer' in the form of money, property, loss of freedom, fame or notoriety for themselves aka Justice. Of course, society still has to exact something for things like murder as those are thing that any society can't leave unpunished.
But how does the person who was insulted by 'kramer' heal his wound by never speaking to him one-to-one personally and having 'kramer' acknowledge the pain that he caused, on a personal level. Does making his personal and professional life worse make him become less racist, if you believe he is?
Is removing Isaiah from Gray's Anatomy 'fixing' the show? Does T.R. Knight simply want to destroy him professionally for making that comment or would it be better for them to resolve this so that Isaiah could be made to understand this insult and learn not to use such hurtful words. Is such a person irredeemable? The shows creator is a person who made a show that tried to dispel stereotype in many ways. Why not use this as a teaching moment so that many people are sensitized to this unkind word?
Did killing Saddam remove even a tiny fraction of the motivation for people killing Iraqis? Did going to war to take-out one man leaving a vacuum the size of Iraq make it a haven for freedom and democracy?
Does attacking the policemen have any effect on whatever issue was involved in the shooting? Was it racism, even if some cops were not white? Was is police profiling? How do you address bad profiling and racism in the police force?
Putting them in jail will not address the issue, neither will hanging them out to dry in public nor will giving the family money. Tomorrow history will repeats itself. Teaching each 'evil doer' what they did wrong will reap more benefit to themselves and society then punishment. People can just as easily infect others with a 'hate' virus as by a 'love' virus. Jail is just the solution that requires less thought and exacts the maximum damage both for the victim and the 'evil doer'.
The Amish removed the school were violence happened and consoled the 'evil doers' family. The pope visited his assassin in jail to forgive him.
